Cool

I decided a while back that i would scrap this blog. But oh well, i want to share. So some new things off the top of my head that i can remember seeing and thinking "hey, i should post that". These are in a really random order in terms of categories, but they all are under the "creative spirit of the human being" umbrella. word.

-----------------------------------------------

Tadahiro Uesugi - one of my new favorites, great color and compositions.

-----------------------------------------------

"Camouflage" by liu bolin

-----------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------

One of my other teachers at Illustration Academy, Sterling Hundley, has been documenting the progress hes been making for his solo show this september. check it here.

Greatness

I love it when I find these things.
The great Bobby Chiu on youtube, podcasts, demos, and great advice.

BLOGS

Hello, people have been asking me what blogs (not sites but blogs, artist blogs specifically) i follow...but since i follow way to many to actually list i decided to narrow it down for now...

to

artist blogs i always go back to, sometimes everyday.
and i might miss a few but i'll add more when i remember.
in no particular order:

Frank Stockton always a good blog to check, great work and great advice!
Yuko Shimizu recently found out that she has a blog...which is very good news for everyone.
Jillian Tamaki very refreshing! also once in a while posts about other good stuff too i wouldn't have found otherwise.
Francis Vallejo guy is crazy good! i have immense respect for him and his work.
Audrey Kawasaki always like to check out her work. her other blog is fun to check out to.
James Jean mr. jean, great artist and...great artist.
Gorilla Artfare a lot of artists i respect post here so...good show.
Irene Gallo's Art Department really great source for all things great!
Andrew Hem really admire his work.
Vincent Hui just discovered him, check his site, dig it!
Jeremy Enecio, blows my mind and only 3 years older than me? also check his old blog which i still always go back to for inspiration.
Chris Buzelli he teaches at my school, but i havn't had the great opportunity to take his class yet...arrrgggg...next year!

These are like the top ones i check out of the mannnny that i have on my bookmarks list (doesn't include all the design, photography, fashion blogs i check either). so there it is guys, blogs are a really great source of inspiriation, information, and eye candy.

-------------------

Also besides checking blogs and websites, I also go through all the American Illustrations and SI annuals. The library here has ones from way back...really interesting and great to see work of older generations. Gotta love it!

TED

Thanks to my friend Brian for showing me this.

TED

"TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes)."

i am watching them non-stop.
so much knowledge and creativity.
and so many ideas.
it blows my mind.
but i love it.

Words

Some more words from Frank Stockton

f. stockton on how to get better

it was quite the interesting read.
i've been thinking about the same things.
not only on how to improve, move forward, and conduct myself when it comes to my work,
but also on how to improve, move forward, and conduct myself when it comes to everything else.

general i know...maybe we can go into depth over hot chocolate and cake sometime.

Joao Paulo

I've been following this guy for a while now.
i just checked up on him a few days ago and discovered he is the new Fables cover artist. There was a lot of speculation on who would replace James Jean, and i think they made a great choice.

the editors and creators said they basically just discovered him through the internet. Just shows you how the internet can help you out.
so start to put your work out there.
who knows what will happen.

congrats to him.

see it

A few photo related things.
been looking at Gerald Slota.
i've seen his photos in different magazines and websites.
opened my eyes to a different world of photography.
but what i'm really drawn to is his editorial photo illustration work.
not just the aesthetics, but his concepts are just so perfect.
like...perfect.

also

reynard li,
has inspired me to take more photos. check his journal.
i'll have my camera with me all the time now.
yay!

The Shepard Fairey

Another show to go to.
thanks to my brother for bringing this to my attention!
Shepard Fairey is the subject of an upcoming exhibition at ICA.
even if you don't know who he is, i guarantee you know his work.
his famous andre the giant is everywhere. i mean everywhere.
and i'm sure you have all seen his Obama posters everywhere as well.

he went to risd too!
(although supposedly he almost got expelled, funny story for another time)

AHH!

For those of you that don't know already, James Jean finally had his ridiculously anticipated opening at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery (Chelsea) last night. MAN, what I would have done to have been able to be there...you don't even want to know.

anyways the show is up through Feb 7.
(so if anyone wants to go down to NY with me to see it later tell me!!!)

if possible, go.

the gallery has the works on the site.

ALSO! don't forget!
Kenichi Hoshine also has work up at Jonathan LeVine along with Jean.

also, as a side note.
last time i was at Jonathan LeVine they had a Blek Le Rat show up.
most people when they see his work say he knocks off banksy.
what they don't know is, he came way before banksy.

banksy: "Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well. Only twenty years earlier..."
